Clear winter light on the high snowfields above Gulmarg

Winter photography

The mountain, then Kashmir

Pine forest in a storm, open bowls when it clears, and a gondola that climbs to nearly 4,000 metres. After the snow: kahwa, a wazwan dinner, and Dal Lake.

What you’ll have time to photograph

The gondola runs most days in season, but wind or poor visibility can close the upper section, so a spare day matters as much for pictures as for skiing. Early cabins mean clearer views.

Non-skiers on the trip can ride the gondola, walk the village, and continue to Srinagar, Pahalgam or a houseboat. We can add those days to a ski week or build the trip around the camera.
